Barry Sutherland

Henderson Engineers

After nearly 14 years on the architecture and construction sides of the AEC industry with HOK and McCarthy Building Companies, Barry Sutherland joined Henderson Engineers, a 1,000-person, national building systems design firm based in Kansas City, as the client experience director in October 2019. In his position, Sutherland uses his extensive marketing and business development experience to strengthen relationships with clients firmwide and in markets from coast to coast. He does this through the development and implementation of a robust Client Experience program aimed at making Henderson the industry-leader in this area. Sutherland has been a member of SMPS since he joined the industry in 2008 and has served in leadership roles for the St. Louis and Kansas City chapters, including president for St. Louis.

Will Lichtig

Chief Innovation Officer

Boldt

Will is Boldt's Chief Innovation Officer and a recognized leader in the lean and integrated project delivery methods.  Will has been at the forefront of the development of the Integrated Lean Project Delivery process since 2003. He assisted Sutter Health and worked with their teams to develop a lean approach to delivering its six-billion-dollar design and construction program. As part of this effort, he developed the "Integrated Form of Agreement for Lean Project Delivery" ("IFOA"), which became the template for the Consensus Doc 300.

For over 20 years, Will has worked with teams to develop and implement lean process for target value design, lean production planning and control, Built in Quality, lean problem solving and other key processes that drive innovative approaches to project delivery. He also has supported teams in developing commercial frameworks under the IFOA and other contracts to align the commercial system with the lean organizational and operating systems.

Russ Sanford, FSMPS, CPSM

Russ is passionate about helping individuals and organizations grow. A strategist, coach, and mentor to technical professionals, he helps them master the art of winning work. Trained as a civil engineer, Russ transitioned from a doer-seller to a full-time business development and strategy leader.

With over 30 years in engineering, construction, and architecture, he’s known for driving firm growth and building high-performing teams. A Fellow and Certified Professional Services Marketer with SMPS, Russ developed seller-doer training programs for SMPS and his firms. He also contributed as a Subject Matter expert to Markendium: The Client and Business Development Handbook. 

In 2024, his team won the first-ever Marketing Innovation Firm of the Year at SMPS Amplify. Russ serves as Chief Strategy Officer at RLF, leading firmwide growth and the implementation of RLF’s strategic planning objectives.
