  • One Person, One Idea, One Strategy Can Make A Difference

Contains 3 Component(s), Includes Credits Includes a Live Web Event on 08/25/2021 at 2:00 PM (EDT)

How many of us have that inner spark, that desire to “be the change.” With a world filled with those who are in need, as well as those who have the means to help, the opportunities are endless. For our presenter, Liz Moody, CPSM, it all started with a “Dessert and Documentary” night—and one person with a passion to help others. This night, which brought about great conversation, led to an idea that started small and has evolved into a company and community-wide effort that has raised over $130K to construct clean water projects for those who don’t have access. During this webinar, each participant will consider their personal passions in conjunction with their firm expertise to identify potential avenues to start a charitable campaign within their firm. In addition, participants will work in small groups to brainstorm problems and solutions and then develop a charitable campaign plan that will be presented to the audience. By the end of the session, anyone who has ever been told that a problem is too big, or that one person can’t make a difference, will stand inspired and confidently respond: It only takes one.

  • Master This- Which Comes First: The Proposal Writing or the Graphics?

Contains 3 Component(s) Includes Multiple Live Events. The next is on 06/15/2021 at 12:00 PM (EDT)

Are you ready to elevate your messaging to help win more work? Powerful proposals purposefully partner strong writing with compelling graphics. But how do we get there? And which comes first: the writing or the graphics?

Are you ready to elevate your messaging to help win more work?

Powerful proposals purposefully partner strong writing with compelling graphics. But how do we get there? And which comes first: the writing or the graphics?

To be successful, today’s marketers need to understand that people take in information as much through reading as they do by looking at graphics. In fact, the human brain can process images up to 60,000 times faster than words—so why do so many of our proposals end up looking like War and Peace, without a graphic in sight?

In this master class, we’ll discuss how to develop a strong message that’s conveyed through a winning balance of writing and graphics. Marketer Jen McGovern, CPSM, and designer Amanda Cross will share best practices gained through preparing hundreds of proposals for public and private clients nationwide. Participants will leave with an understanding of how writing and design can work together to elevate messaging and help you win more work.

During this three-part series , participants will learn how to:

    • Develop an overall strategy for proposals and marketing pieces
    • Write with design in mind
    • Use design best practices to highlight important content
    • Partner effectively with their marketing or graphic design counterpart and work in tandem

    Jen McGovern, CPSM

    Regional Marketing Manager, VHB

Jen McGovern, CPSM, regional marketing manager at VHB, knows what it takes to put together a strong proposal. She oversees the marketing efforts for seven of VHB’s offices, which means she has prepared and reviewed hundreds of proposals. A frequent writer and presenter, Jen is president of SMPS Washington, DC, and a member of the Marketer Editorial Committee. She achieved her CPSM in 2015.

  • Unpacking Stereotypes and Biases in the A/E/C Industries

Contains 3 Component(s), Includes Credits Includes a Live Web Event on 06/02/2021 at 2:00 PM (EDT)

Research consistently cites diversity and inclusion as a source of competitive advantage and a key enabler of growth. During this interactive session, the presenters will share data and best practices for recognizing conscious and unconscious bias, avoiding confirmation bias, and how to mitigate the impact of these biases. Participants will hear industry leaders’ advice and their personal experiences in video interviews recorded specifically for this presentation. At the conclusion of the session, each participant will have a better sense of their personal bias and leave armed with resources to address them.

    image

We’ve all heard jokes like, “How do you tell the difference between an engineer and an architect?” Or perhaps you’ve been told by someone, “You don’t look like an engineer.” Stereotypes are abound in the A/E/C world, and while they might seem to make good fodder for jokes, they’re holding us back from advancing the future of the A/E/C industries.

By better understanding the impact of stereotypes among the A/E/C disciplines and the broader workforce, we can gain a better understanding of each other's perspectives and adjust to create thriving relationships and project success. Conscious and unconscious bias is also a key inhibitor of advancing diversity in our industry. As we look to the future, this lack of diversity can hinder innovation and ability overcome the current talent war.

    During this webinar, participants will:

    • Discover how to understand our own personal bias and trusted resources to help address them personally and professionally
    • Learn ways to approach meetings and decision-making to minimize bias and increase inclusivity

  • Master This- More Than Marketing: Team Coaching To Energize Business Development

Contains 3 Component(s) Includes Multiple Live Events. The next is on 06/01/2021 at 12:00 PM (EDT)

It’s critical to develop new skills related to client communications and relationship-building. Often, these skills aren’t taught in schools, universities, or even on the job. We need to learn to listen, differentiate our services, raise awareness of new issues, generate excitement, all while maintaining interest virtually—and when we return in person.

    image

How’s this done successfully? By accessing an entirely new tool belt of communication techniques. And by creating a firm-wide business development culture so that each staff member becomes an integral part of bringing new business to the firm.

During this master class, participants will learn creative options to enhance their communications and interactions with new and current clients. Our presenter will also teach marketers how best to work with technical staff to gain much-needed information and project input.

Using Core Energy Coaching, you’ll learn how to access positive energy, distinct capabilities, and communication skills to maximize client interactions to attract and capture new business. You’ll discover how to become more aware of your personal power and become a powerful leader—one who motivates others to reach their true potential.

    Learning Objectives:

    • -Discover the seven distinct levels of energy that are the key to understanding why everyone thinks and acts the way they do
    • -Understand why listening is one of the most important aspects of communication
